Blue 9 Burger opens today

T.J. Villano used to come to Greeley once in a while to play golf with a friend who works at the regional office of State Farm Insurance Cos.

Villano owns a burger place not far from New York University in New York City. His friend encouraged him to open a second location in Greeley.

"New York City and Greeley, they aren't that much different, are they?" Villano asked with a laugh.

Well, maybe a little, but the second location of Blue 9 Burger will conduct a grand opening today.

The business, which has a drive-through window and seating for 36, will open daily at 10:30 a.m. and feature a limited menu of fresh products -- from the meat used in its hamburgers and cheeseburgers that are never frozen to the buns and condiments that accompany them. Potatoes used to make french fries are peeled and diced each day, Villano said, and shakes and soft drinks will be offered.

"I think we are pretty competitive in price. Our cheeseburger meal is $6," he said.

He said he opened his first Blue 9 in the East Village of New York City about two and a half years ago and it has become a popular place for NYU students. His Greeley operation employs about 20, Villano said.
