EXCERPTS FROM TEAM'S REPORT

Print Comment
The team that audited Greeley-Evans School District 6 pointed out several areas in which the school district needs to have better focus. Here are excerpts from the audit team's report:

* * *

"This district has not operated in a truly standards-based manner. This failure to fully embrace and implement a standards-based system of operation is evident in most aspects of the district including planning, curriculum adoption, classroom instruction, staff development, assessment practices and a lack of focus on actual learning results."

* * *

"The impact of a fragmented and inconsistently delivered curriculum is evident in the district's performance as well as in the lack of clear, coherent and focused instruction."

* * *

"It seems apparent that many teachers have not made the conceptual transition to a standards-based model for teaching and learning. Many teachers are not focused on learning and student performance as their true measure of success."

* * *

"Students are not consistently receiving equitable educational experiences and opportunities. There are discrepancies from school to school and classroom to classroom within the same school. This results in lower achievement levels for some students."

* * *

"There is not a core focus or mission within the district. Each school operates as its own entity with little understanding of the support from the central administration."

* * *

"The English Language Acquisition program varies widely throughout the district in texts used, content, approaches to literacy learning, instructional strategies, and transition criteria to move ELL students into regular classes. The material used in most cases is not a district curriculum aligned to the Colorado standards and performance expectations."
