LOVELAND -- Colorado fans of radio broadcasting will soon have the opportunity to see a live performance of one of the most popular shows on the airways.
Garrison Keillor and the rest of the cast of "A Prairie Home Companion" will perform on May 6 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. The performance will be broadcast live across the country to more than 4 million listeners on 580 public radio stations, including KUNC-FM in Greeley.
"A Prairie Home Companion" is a variety show featuring comedic skits, musical performances, advertisements for imaginary products and Keillor's signature monologue: "The News from Lake Wobegon." The featured musicians for the May 6 performance will include some area artists to be announced in coming weeks.
In 1999, Keillor hosted his radio program from the Union Colony Civic Center in Greeley. The show sold out quickly.
"A Prairie Home Companion" regularly airs on KUNC (91.5 FM) at 4 p.m. Saturday and is rebroadcast on at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Tickets can be purchased starting March 25.
Keillor, a veteran of radio broadcasting and the recipient of numerous radio and literary awards, is a regular contributor to Time magazine and the author of 13 books. He also hosts a five-minute radio program called "The Writer's Almanac," which airs weekdays on KUNC at 9:35 a.m.
