Speaker to talk about mission to Indonesia just weeks after tsunami

Ruthann Kallenberg is scheduled to be the guest speaker for Missions Sunday at St. Paul's Congregational Church. She will speak about and show pictures of both Indonesia and Thailand in the morning worship services Sunday at 10 a.m. at the church, 1525 43rd Ave., Greeley. Kallenberg went to Banda Aceh, Indonesia, on a two-week missions trip with her church group from Denver just weeks after the tsunami hit on Dec. 26, 2004. Then, in June 2005, she accepted a position with Habitat for Humanity as their volunteer management coordinator for Disaster Response Project in Khao Lak, Thailand. During her year there, she was host to more than 1,000 volunteers from more than 30 countries around the world who came to help rebuild homes for the villagers who lost everything to the tsunami.

«Missionaries visit Greeley on Sunday

GREELEY

Missionaries to Curaçao, Richard and Laura Smallie, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Glad Tidings Church, 3500 6th St., Greeley. Their ministry consists of curriculum design, teaching, administration, staffing for translation and facilitating student ministries at the New Life Bible College. They also are involved in preaching, cell leadership and other pastoral ministries. Pastor David Meek welcomes everyone to meet these veteran missionaries.

Also at Glad Tidings Church, a holiday craft and bake sale will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 18. The proceeds are going to help send Linda Meredith on a 10-day missions trip next June to Dominican Republic. Table rentals are $20. For details, call Pastor Beverly Meek, (970) 351-0169.

«Meditation study and service

GREELEY

Carol Gansho O'Dowd will present a meditation study class on "What is Consciousness?" at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Life Source One, 2961 29th St., Greeley. A Shin Buddhist service will follow at 10:30 a.m., with a dharma talk on "Entrusting in Wisdom/Compassion." The cost for the class is $15; there is no cost for the service, but donations are accepted.

O'Dowd also conducts a weekly meditation class. The Greeley Shin Sangha meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays at Life Source One for a 45-minute meditation service.

«Free movie night

GREELEY

The film "Whale Rider" will be featured at a free movie night at 7 p.m. Friday at Creative Living Church, a Center for Spiritual Living, 929 15th St., Greeley. The film depicts the story of a small Maori village that faces a cultural crisis and changes in traditions. The movie appeals to young girls ages 9-90. The showing is open to the public. Childcare is provided and light refreshments will be served after the movie. Door prizes also are featured. A discussion group is optional. For details, call Mary Clayton at (970) 371-2946.

«Group forming; people sought

GREELEY

Individuals interested in forming a group to study and discuss the Jefferson Bible are being sought. The group will be nonpolitical, working only to understand the life and morals of Jesus. Also being sough is a person who has read or studied the book before to be a co-leader. «Get information on ministries

GREELEY

Information on ministries offered by the First United Presbyterian Church, 1321 9th Ave., Greeley, will be on display from 11 a.m.-noon Sunday in the church's Celebration Center. People are invited to walk among the displays, talk to those serving in the area and consider becoming involved in the church's ministries.
