Tribune's Web site is very well managed

I would like to thank the Greeley Tribune online editor and IT personnel.

The Greeley Tribune Web site -- www.greeleytribune.com -- is set up in such a manner that any story published can receive citizen commentary. So for example, if Mike Peters writes a story online, any online Tribune user can comment on Mike or the story. You must submit your comment and allow time for an online editor to proof your comment, mainly to make sure you did not curse or make any threats.

All comments I have submitted online have been posted. Some of the comments I have posted required the Tribune to remain objective and impartial. The Tribune online staff has done well.

Greeley's Harley dealership comes to aid of homeless agency
Thanks to Greeley's motorcycling community and others, Greeley's homeless families will be considerably warmer this winter.

Last Saturday, the Greeley Harley-Davidson/Honda/Yamaha dealership sponsored a coat drive to benefit the Greeley Transitional House, an emergency shelter and supportive services agency serving homeless families. The drive was coordinated by Shannon Wolfe, public relations director, and the dealership's general manager, Steve Larson. Wolfe and Larson not only invited their loyal customer base to participate but also opened up the event to the public. A full Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings was provided to anyone who brought in a coat or a $10 cash donation. We are very pleased to report that more than 500 coats were donated along with $150 in cash.

As Wolfe explained, "Every year, we try to figure out ways to give back to the community. This year, we decided to give our customers an opportunity to join us in giving to a worthwhile organization and for us to reward them for their generosity by providing them with great food." The employees at Harley-Davidson were pleasantly overwhelmed by the response and spent much of the afternoon sorting the coats and giving away dinners.

I am continuously surprised and pleased with how generous this community is when told about a need. On behalf of our client families, I thank Shannon Wolfe, Steve Larson and all of their employees at Greeley Harley-Davidson/Honda/Yamaha for their initiative in sponsoring this event and for the extra work they went to in coordinating it. You are all so awesome!

And thank you all who gave a coat or cash. We very much appreciate your support!

Jodi Hartmann is the executive director of Greeley Transitional House.

Musgrave's work for Weld is appreciated

This fall, Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave secured a $246,807 grant to help Weld County's troubled youth through the juvenile assessment center. The juvenile assessment center will use the money to purchase a computer system that will link schools, law enforcement and other partner organizations in an effort to help provide appropriate services to children in need.

This is just one of numerous accomplishments Congresswoman Musgrave has achieved for the residents of Weld County. She has also: protected irrigation water for our farmers and ranchers through pushing a wilderness designation in Rocky Mountain National Park; secured $6.4 million for the 137th Space Warning Squadron, essential for our nation's security; petitioned to keep funding in the federal budget for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program which helps more than 5,000 low-income seniors and single mothers in our community; and brought together national and local leaders to speak at a congressional hearing on methamphetamine-related issues in northern Colorado.

Her hard work for the people of Weld County and northern Colorado is a testament to her dedication to her office and to those whom she represents.

Ken Buck is Weld district attorney. He may be reached at WeldDA@co.weld.co.us. or by calling (970) 356-4010.
