Eaton swimmer overcomes injury

FORT COLLINS -- The one thing Eaton head coach Heidi Carlson never thought she'd have to worry about was losing one of her athletes to a football injury.

But funny enough, this year that nearly happened as girls swimmer Gina Riggle nearly missed out on her first year of high school swimming with a broker collarbone she suffered last fall in a game of flag football.

What didn't happen though was Riggle letting it get to her, as the freshman finished her rehab, worked her way back into condition with a lot off kickboard work with her club team the Eaton Red Waves and found herself qualifying all but two events for the Class 4A state meet and one of the top-16 in the state with two consolation swims in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 breast.

"I didn't think I was going to have her," Carlson said. "But she is so awesome. She is just a great, fun person. Once and awhile you get one or two like that. But what I love about her is when she does well, she's never bragging and when she doesn't do well she doesn't dwell."
