A Keenesburg woman may lose a foot after she was thrown from a car that overturned while "spinning donuts" in a parking lot in south Weld County Sunday night.
Jamie Zimbelman, 26, is being treated at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, with a severe injury to a foot. Weld County Sheriff's deputies said Zimbelman may have a foot surgically removed because of the severity of injuries from the rollover accident.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Margie Martinez said Monday that Grady Weichel, 25, of rural Hudson was spinning circles in the parking lot of the American Legion building in Keenesburg when the Jeep overturned.
Zimbelman was thrown from the Jeep and sustained the worst injuries of the three people in the vehicle. She was flown to NCMC by helicopter, but her medical condition was not available Monday.
Weichel was cited at the scene for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol. A breath test Sunday showed his blood-alcohol level was .095. By state law, any reading above .08 is considered driving under the influence.
In addition to the DUI charge, Weichel also was ticketed for not having auto insurance and careless driving. Martinez said they may add a charge of vehicular assault because of the serious injury suffered by Zimbelman.
