Special Sections The Growth Effect
A trip across town that used to take 10 minutes now takes 15 — or even 20 if it’s during Greeley’s “rush minute.”

The line at the grocery store is longer. A new shopping center with several “big boxes” pops up at a major intersection not too far from your house.

The neighbor of 25 years next door moves — to a townhouse in west Greeley. The favorite sledding hill that you enjoyed as a child is gone, swallowed up by a new Wal-Mart.

It seems like half of your neighbors commute to a job outside of Greeley.

Those are just a few of the effects of a significant occurrence in northern Colorado in the past decade or more: growth.

In the next year, The Tribune will examine the effects of growth, how we got where we are today, and where we are headed.

The series, titled “The Growth Effect,” begins today and will continue with a monthly package of stories examining how Greeley and Weld County are changing because of growth that, as recently as two years ago, ranked No. 1 in the country.
