A plane crashed this morning just south of the Greeley-Weld County Airport in east Greeley, sparking a brush fire and killing two people.
The plane is a single-engine airplane, which apparently hit some power lines and trees, and crashed in flames on the ground. Onlookers have been moved back, as there may have been something toxic on board.
Ed Phillipsen, chair of the Greeley/Weld Airport Authority Board, said some witnesses saw the plane stall in the air and "drop like a rock."
Federal officials from the National Transportation Safety Board were on scene Monday afternoon investigating the cause of the crash.
The call came out about 11:45 a.m. Authorities reported through radio traffic that they had the majority of the flames cleared by noon.
More information to come when it is available.
