Work Out West raises $3,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs

A Weld County youth club plans to use a $3,000 donation for its programs and life skills classes.

Work Out West and New Frontier Bank raised the money at the 2007 Fun Fest on Aug. 18 at Work Out West for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Weld County.

Tammy Forbes, Work Out West general manager, joined representatives of New Frontier Bank to present a check to Victor Rivera and Allison Gunnells of the Boys and Girls Clubs.

"The donations are great. That's what the boys and girls clubs are made of," said Rivera, who is director of the Pawl Unit.

Gunnells explained that the money would be used for youth programs and life skills classes.

"There is such a need for our children," said Stephen Luersen, director of corporate sales and marketing for Work Out West, "it was a nice way to give back."

This was the first year for the Fun Fest, which featured basketball and tennis tournaments, swimming, a Raffertys beer garden, two Colorado Eagles players and Dinger the Colorado Rockies mascot. Luersen estimated that there were about 1,000 people at the festival.

Luersen said they hope to make the Fun Fest an annual event.
