Disabled residents discuss sales tax increase proposal for bus system

Print Comment
Greeley Councilwoman Debbie Pilch called it a room full of "yes" votes.

Pilch spoke briefly to a room of concerned and disabled residents Thursday afternoon at First United Methodist Church, 917 10th Ave., about the state of Greeley's bus service, particularly for the disabled.

Pilch was pitching the idea of Greeley ballot question 2B, a sales tax increase which would raise about $3 million annually for Greeley's bus system if approved by voters in November.

Pilch seemed sure the measure will pass.

"It's going to pass," she said. "We're working very hard to make that happen."

Residents also heard from several other officials about Greeley paratransit -- transportation for disabled people. These speakers included Greeley Transit Manager Brad Patterson, who said the money is imperative to ensuring disabled people can get a ride to where they need to go.

"We're at capacity with our paratransit services," Patterson said. "Often times it's hard to get a ride."
