Aims Community College will have one contested race when the board of trustees election is held in November. Walter Richter and Tambor Williams are vying for the District E seat.
District E includes Weld School District Re-2 in Eaton; Greeley-Evans School District 6; and Platte Valley Re-7 District in Gill and Kersey. Ken Nickerson, president of the Aims board, is leaving the seat due to term limits.
Sandra Neb is running uncontested in District A and will continue to serve her second term on the Aims Board of Trustees representing Fort Lupton Re-8 and Weld Central Re-3J in Keenesburg, Hudson and Prospect Valley.
Mike Geile is running uncontested in District B and will serve his first term on the board. He is taking the seat currently occupied by Bernie Kinnick, who is term-limited. District B includes Valley Re-1 School District of La Salle, Gilcrest and Platteville; Windsor Re-4 District; and Johnstown/Milliken Re-5J; and Greeley-Evans District 6.
Profiles on each candidate follows:
* Richter is a former Aims chemistry professor, department chairperson, department director and academic dean of Aims Community College, where he worked for 24 years before retiring in 2004. He earned a doctorate degree in pharmacology. While at Aims, Richter earned the Lifetime Achievement Award in Science Education from the college. He was also involved in the Aims International Education Program and received recognition as an Honorary Advisor to the Senate, Parliament, in Bangkok, Thailand. Richter's public service includes serving on the Aims Foundation board of directors, Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity board, the Kiwanis Club, the United Way and the Institutional Review board for North Colorado Medical Center.
* Williams most recently served as executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, an appointed position in the governor's cabinet from August 2004 to January 2007. Williams served as state representative in House District 50, where she served on the House Education Committee, the House Appropriations Committee and served as chairperson of the Legislative Audit Committee and chair of the House Business Affairs and Labor Committee in addition to serving as the speaker pro tem. Williams practiced law from 1982 to 2002. She has also worked in education, serving as an adjunct professor, instructor and assistant director of admissions in higher education and as a teacher and counselor in junior and senior high. She has served on the city of Greeley's Mayor's Advisory Board, several chambers of commerce, chairperson of the Union Colony Civic Center board and deacon to the First Congregational Church of Greeley.
* Geile, who is running uncontested, most recently served as a Weld County commissioner from 1999 to 2007. His career includes experience as a real estate broker and owner and regional manager of the Public Service Co.
* Neb is running uncontested for District A. Her professional experience includes owning and operating Neb Electric Inc. for 22 years. She also has worked in banking and real estate.
