Lubick talking retirement

Print Comment
Maybe the presence of a 13-game losing streak is weighing harder on Colorado State coach Sonny Lubick than previously thought.

Lubick was quoted Monday in the Denver Post saying he will contemplate retiring at the conclusion of this season, his 15th at Colorado State.

The Rams have not won since Oct. 7, 2006 when they defeated UNLV. The Rebels, coincidentally, are the Rams' opponent this Saturday.

When asked about it Monday during his weekly media gathering, Lubick said that speculation has surrounded him for some time but wouldn't address it specifically.

"Before the season even started, I read it in sporting magazines," Lubick said.

"There's always been that speculation. For the last three years, there's been some kind of speculation of what's going to happen.

Lubick's teams have gone a combined 14-27 times since the start of the 2004 season.

This year the Rams sit at 0-6, at the bottom of the Mountain West Conference and suffered their worst loss of the season Saturday to Air Force, 45-21.

"It's probably a little bit of coaching. Probably a little bit of everything," Lubick said of the 2007 struggles. "It's probably a little bit of scheduling. There's a lot of things going on."

Before the 2004 season, however, the Rams had winning seasons in 10 of 11 years, won or tied for first in the conference six times. Lubick has taken the Rams to eight bowls.
