Olson retires from Downtown Development Authority

Print Comment
Mark Olson, executive director of the Greeley Downtown Development Association for the past two years, has announced his retirement effective Dec. 31.

"My wife and I have been talking about it for some time. I don't intend to stay home and watch Fox News. I'd like to find some part-time work if I can, but I don't want to work full time," Olson said Wednesday afternoon. The retirement, he said, will give him and his wife time to do things they have wanted to do for some time.

The DDA board of directors is considering its options, Olson said, adding what he is looking for is a "seamless transition" with a new director, if that's the option the board decides to take. Olson said if necessary, he would help with that transition after Dec. 31 if a successor is not found before then.

Olson became director of the DDA two years ago after a 23-year career with Aims Community College.

"I started four months after I left Aims, but I think it might last a little longer this time," he said.

Olson said he has enjoyed his tenure with the DDA and the people he met and worked with.

"It's been a good ride. I've been really impressed with the people I've met, a lot of really nice folks," he said. The volunteers who have worked to improve the downtown area have been fantastic, he added.

"I have never been associated with such a group of dedicated volunteers in my life as I have with the group who have worked tirelessly to improve downtown. The work they've done and will continue to do has certainly been encouraging," Olson said.
