Get out and vote

Print Comment
Nothing on this year's ballot is going to fix the country's immigration situation.

Nothing there will halt or even slow the war in Iraq.

And, there's nothing there that will guarantee that all students will be brilliant by the time they're 12 years old.

But, everything on this year's ballots will have an impact on the communities in which we live or work or play every day. And it's a ballot like this that deserves a couple of minutes of your time.

In Greeley, voters will decide whether Mayor Tom Selders will return for another term or if his opponent, Ed Clark, will take the reins. In two other ballot issues, they'll also decide if new taxes should be created to help pay for maintenance of the city's roads and to help finance and improve the city's transportation system. A proposal to stop the city of Greeley from withholding union dues from members' paychecks also will be in voters' hands.

Voters in several smaller area towns will elect new mayors, council members and school board members as well some key school bond issues.

All Weld County voters will determine if certain county officials, such as the county assessor, clerk and recorder, sheriff, district attorney and county council members, will be able to run for third terms, which would be a term-limit extension.

And, three directors will be elected to the Aims Community College District Board of Trustees.

These are the kind of issues that hit home.

That's why it's so important to get out and vote Tuesday.
