The Evans City Council on Tuesday will discuss switching to paperless packets for its meetings.
The council will meet in a work session at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers, 1100 37th St. Also on the agenda will be a discussion of municipal court security and creating new procedures for shutting off residential water when customers don't pay their bills.
The council will have its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. The agenda includes discussing a $15,000 expenditure for park amenities, including trash cans and picnic tables; choosing a Realtor to list and sell vacant city-owned land in the 2900 block of 11th Avenue; and buying fertilizer for nine park sites.
City Clerk Kim Betz has reported to the council that going paperless would save the council $15,000. In city documents, Betz reports that going paperless would require the council to buy seven laptops and possibly an additional one as a spare. The cost for seven would be $5,271, Betz reports.
Council members would receive their weekly meeting agendas on either a flash drive or a CD, Betz reports. The paper packet would still be available on the city's Web site, and a copy would be posted outside of the city council chambers.
Betz will give the council a demonstration Tuesday at the work session on how such a system would work.
