Millken to get new community development director

Print Comment
The future of Milliken, in part, rests in the hands of Steve House.

If that name doesn't ring any bells it is because House is wrapping up business at his office in Aurora where he is the senior planner for Foxfire community planning and development.

Starting Tuesday, House, 62, will take the newly created position of community development director for the town of Milliken.

"I've always liked working with small towns," House said. "I worked with the city of Commerce City when it was a small town."

House has been involved in community planning in Colorado for 35 years.

His new role in Milliken will focus on current planning, such as new development and building codes, and long range planning, such as reviewing the town's comprehensive plan.

Milliken Town Administrator Sheryl Trent said House beat out about 40 applicants for the position, and was chosen because of his experience.

"He brings a lot of excitement, and great ideas with him," Trent said.

Wednesday, the town board held a reception for House where he got his first introduction to his new colleagues. And while he isn't sure what the future of Milliken will look like right now, House said he is excited to get to work.

"It is certainly a growing a community, and I'm very excited about that and taking a look at how that will grow," House said.

House is married to Susan House, 61, and the two have a 28-year-old son Brian House.

When not working on master plans and development reviews, House said he enjoys reading, playing tennis and traveling throughout Colorado.

"I just like small towns and local government, "House said.

Steve House, 62, starts as Milliken's Community Development Director Tuesday.
