Church will reenact Di Vinci's Last Supper

Print Comment
It's one of the most recognizable images in the world and on March 20, it can be found in a church in Ault.

First Lutheran Church, 402 Graefe Ave., will host its annual production of Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper.

The production will be held March 20, which is Holy Thursday in the Christian Calendar.

During the hour, 13 actors portraying Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples will reenact the 510-year-old painting. All ages are invited. The actors have committed to their roles including growing beards and growing out their hair. The production will start at 7:30 p.m. and run about an hour.

Lauri Dieterle, a volunteer at First Lutheran, said the event is well attended and takes a lot of preparation.

"It takes a lot of commitment," she said.

The production is an annual event at the church, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

During the production, the actors will remain still during the hour, while a pre-recorded soundtrack plays, highlighting each of the disciples' roles during the final days of Christ. According to the Bible, it was during the Last Supper when Jesus revealed that one of his disciples would betray him. Each will question if they are the one that betrays Jesus, Dieterle said.

"It's very inspirational," Dieterle said.

What is Holy Thursday?

Holy Thursday, also known as Maundy Thursday, is the day before Good Friday and is the commemoration of the Last Supper, the subject of Da Vinci's masterpiece.
