Two Dacono police officers fall ill from exposure to noxious gas, are released from hospital

Two Dacono police officers were briefly hospitalized Wednesday night after what police say appeared to be a natural gas leak in Dacono.

The two officers were treated and released after the incident, which occurred shortly after 6 p.m. at 1207 MacMurray Court in Dacono. According to Jesse Hodgson, spokesman for the Mountain View Fire Protection District, Dacono police were called to the residence after neighbors noticed a man stumbling inside his house. When the two officers entered the house, however, the man was face down.

The man, who’s name was not released, was taken to Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital near Lafayette. His condition was unknown late Wednesday, according to Hodgson.
Representatives from both Source Gas, of Frederick, and the Longmont Fire Department HazMat team did not find any carbon dioxide or natural gas at the home, however, when they were checking, the two officers they were with fell ill.

They were taken to Longmont United Hospital and were released around 10 p.m.
Source gas workers later found when checking the furnace pilot light that pipes for the hot water heater were installed incorrectly, leading authorities to bar people from entering the house.
