Remember the good ol’ days when you spent hours, sometimes days, perfecting the quintessential mixtape?

No?

Well, I suppose I did have a lot of free time as a child, and one of the things I cherished was creating mixtapes.

The freedom to splice favorite songs together into a spool of pure music magic was liberating.

But of course the two best parts of creating a mix tape were: One thinking up a great name for it and two sharing it with friends.

Once the tape had a “cool” title, like “Tape of Destiny!” or “Master Mix,” etched into it with a Sharpie it was time to pop it into the trusty boombox and crank up the volume until it inevitably ate the tape.

It is for this reason that I was excited to hear about a new site launched Tuesday called muxtape.com.

The simple site allows users to create an account in a matter of minutes, then upload up to 12 MP3s to create a 21st century mixtape.

The process is much simpler than the old-school method, and the library to chose from is far bigger. Users can peruse a catalog of eclectic mixes, opening up new bands and genres to some.

Muxtape can be fun to just open up and listen to some random songs, or create that classic mix of music that perfectly reflects a mood for that moment in time.

Either way, pick a username and color and get to mixing.
