Fort Collins Audubon group fights Glade Reservoir

Print Comment
The Fort Collins Audubon Society is taking a stand against the Glade Reservoir in northern Larimer County.

The group's board of directors voted unanimously Wednesday to oppose the 170,000-acre-foot project, according to a release from the organization.

The president of the group, Joel Hurmence, stated in the release that the Glade Reservoir and the proposed Northern Integrated Supply Project are "the worst threats to the health and ecological integrity of the Cache la Poudre River since the main stem reservoir project proposed some 20 years ago."

The group also indicated in the release that the project would threaten wildlife habitat along the Poudre River and proposed that communities explore water conservation options instead of the water project.

In addition to its stand on the issue, the Fort Collins Audubon Society is urging others, including politicians and business and farm leaders, to find more ecological and economical ways to secure water, according to the release.
