No decision yet from Gov. Ritter on liquor bill

Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter has not decided yet if he will sign a bill that would legalize Sunday liquor sales, according to his spokesman.

Evan Dreyer, Ritter's spokesman, said in an e-mail Thursday that the Governor hasn't made a decision about if he will sign the bill, SB 82.

Ritter has until Sunday to sign the bill, veto it or allow it to become law without his signature, a tool governors use to allow bills to become law without endorsing them.

If the bill -- which passed the state Senate last week -- becomes law, it would go into effect on July 1.

Colorado liquor store owners have cited both positives and negatives in allowing Sunday liquor sales. Some say it will provide choice for consumers and a boost in revenue for the state, while others contend that it will cause more deaths by drunk drivers and that Sunday is many liquor store owners' day off.
