Milliken town board approves zone change

Print Comment
Milliken's town board approved a zone change to allow for a cement blocks building company.

Mayor Linda Measner said the board approved the second reading of an ordinance for a zone change from commercial to industrial for a cement blocks building company located north of highway 60 and east of Milliken's town center.

Measner said the company, Hunters Cove LLC., proposed the zone change because it needs outdoor storage only allowed in the industrial zones.

However, while the zone change was approved, Measner said there are still three surrounding tracts of land that need to have a zone change as well, before the change can take affect.

"There will be no completed development agreement until the three parcels of land around them change their zoning to industrial too," Measner said. "We will not do spot zoning."

One person attended the public hearing on the zone change, but had no comment Measner said.

In addition to the zone change and public hearing, the board approved the purchase of 20 shares of Colorado Big Thompson Water for $190,000.

The board also approved Lamp Rynearson & Associates, Inc. as a firm to oversee the town's site plans and water projects, Measner said.

The decision came after the town eliminated it's engineer.

"We decided towards the tail end of last year that didn't make sense to have an engineer on staff," Measner said. "So we eliminated that position and hired an economic development director to bring commercial to town."
