I知 back in school this week. I知 learning tools to become a better journalist. We池e shooting photos, taking video and editing. Hopefully what I知 learning will mean you get to hear the news in different ways very soon.

We池e learning from Val Hoeppner, a former multimedia editor at the Indianapolis Star and one of the best in the business at the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute in Nashville, Tenn.

To produce video, the Tribune has its own multimedia/online producer/editor, but for every reporter that knows better how to shoot video, we値l be able to tell better stories you care about. Visual and audio stories show emotion, drive traffic to our Web site and maybe sell more newspapers. Regardless of what it really does, it helps you understand your community better when you are actually interested in seeing news.

Take some time today. Look at a video on our Web site. We have new video up and running of a golf course clean up by some concerned residents.

And hopefully, by this time next week, I値l also be up and running, producing videos and audio you care about and telling stories in different ways.

Newspapers are changing; everyone is in agreement. This week will help me keep my wits when on deadline for a video story. It will help when the video has to be done before I can go home, and when you池e itching to see or hear the news instead of just reading it.
