Fatal victim died from chest injuries

An Ault man who was killed west of town Monday night died from chest trauma, according to an autopsy that was performed Tuesday afternoon.

Glen Konya, 49, lived in Ault, according to the Colorado State Patrol. He died about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the crash at Colo. 14 and Weld County Road 23. It was near the same location as a dune buggy accident two weeks ago that killed two men.

In the most recent crash, Konya was driving his 1985 Toyota Tercel on Weld 23, failed to yield at a stop sign and turned into the path of a 1999 Ford F350 pickup. Konya, although he was wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car and died at the scene.

His passenger, Erin Miller, 42, of Ault was seriously injured and is being treated at the Medical Center of the Rockies. The driver of the pickup, Richard White, 52, of Nunn sustained only minor injuries.

Miller and White also were wearing their seat belts.

The coroner's report stated Konya's chest was crushed in the crash and heart was damaged.

His was the 11th fatality on Weld roads this year, compared to 15 on this date in 2007.

The Weld County Coroner's office said Konya did not have family in this area, but his mother and sister were flying in today.
