Earth Day expo is Friday

Print Comment
Northern Colorado Clean Cities officials want to curb the use of petroleum in travel and show people more environmentally and economically friendly ways to get around.

Representatives of the group will present details on alternative transportation and the effects of fossil fuels on the world at its Earth Day Expo on Friday at the Poudre Environmental Learning Center, 8313 F St. in Greeley.

The Northern Colorado Clean Cities program was formed by the U.S. Department of Energy 10 years ago but, according to Robin Newbrey, coordinator for the group, the program works more like a nonprofit organization.

The 2-3 p.m. session will be open to the general public and is free. It will feature a recently converted hybrid electric plug-in vehicle, a Hummer that's been converted to run on multiple clean-burning fuels and a human-powered transportation device from a company in Boulder. The session also will include updates on ethanol and biodiesel stations in the area and a presentation from Hybrids-Plus on electric conversions.

A session from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. will be more kid-friendly. It will be geared toward first- and third-graders from the Knowledge Quest Academy of Milliken. The session is open to the public, but a reservation is required. To RSVP, call (970) 689-4845.
