A former University High School tennis coach, charged with violating the parameters of a work-release program, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday morning.
Norman Whitfield, 42, was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in May 2007. He was sentenced to a year and a half of work release and eight years of probation after a jury found him guilty of providing a then 14-year-old girl with alcohol and drugs.
On Feb. 29, Whitfield was placed on escape status after he failed to return to the Weld County Jail as part of his work-release sentence, according to court documents. He turned himself in on April 7.
