Spare tire cover helps show hatred at work

It is with much regret that I must announce the putting away of a very special gift.

The gift is a Virgin de Guadalupe spare tire cover given to me by my friend and co-worker Richard, who said I am "One of the brownest white guys he knows."

I proudly displayed my lovely, yet functional, piece of art for about a month. During this month I have been tail-gated, cut off and the recipient of numerous obscene gestures. I have been followed by the police twice, which is two more times than the previous 18 months before the Virgin de Guadalupe spare tire cover.

The last straw occurred as I was sitting at a red light with my 15-year-old stepdaughter. A car pulled alongside and informed me," This is (expletive) America, get a (expletive) American flag on the back of your car." Rather than inform him that Mexico is also a part of America, I rolled up my window, drove off and tried to explain this to my teen.

I soon realized it was only a matter of time before something worse happened to me, my car, or, most importantly, my family.

So sadly, my spare tire is now exposed to the ravages of sunlight and ozone.

We'll miss you, Virgin de Guadalupe spare tire cover.

Joseph Endorf, Greeley
