Errors hurt Eagles

Print Comment
LOVELAND -- The Texas Brahmas found a way past the solid Colorado defense and forced a Game 7 in the Northern Conference finals with a 5-4 victory against the Eagles on Monday night at the Budweiser Events Center.

The second period left a bad taste in the Eagles' mouth as their individual play slipped and their penalty-killing unit came up short. The Brahmas scored three times in the period, including a power play goal.

"I didn't think our penalty killing was as aggressive as it has been in the past, and those are things we have to correct for Game 7," Eagles' coach Chris Stewart said. "We probably had more individual errors in the second period than we've had all series long. I don't think it was an overall tactical error, where guys weren't getting into lanes. It was just individual error, and those things can be corrected."

The Eagles had held the Brahmas to 4-for-45 on the power play this series, but the Brahmas were able to capitalize on 2-of-8 power play opportunities, one coming with less than three minutes left in the game on the Eagles' fifth consecutive penalty.

"I think anytime you're sitting in the box you're at a disadvantage," Colorado center Ed McGrane said. "No matter what, it kind of takes the momentum away, but we know that and we just have to get better."

Said Center Riley Nelson:"It's a loss for us and we didn't get the result we wanted but we can't sit and think about it. We have to get ready for the next one."
