Eastern Orthodox Easter, April 27

This is the most sacred and holy day of the Orthodox Church's entire year. The Orthodox date for Easter is based on a decree of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea held in 325 A.D. According to this decree, Easter must be celebrated on the Sunday following the first full moon of the vernal equinox but always after the Hebrew Passover to maintain the Biblical sequence of events of the crucifixion and the resurrection.

Evangelist John David Hicks will preach a revival Sunday through Wednesday at Sunny View Church of the Nazarene, 4100 20th St., Greeley. Services are open to the public and will be at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

Hicks is president of Faith Encounter Inc. and travels full time as an evangelist and Bible teacher conducting revivals, retreats, seminars and conferences. He has been a professor of speech and evangelism at Canadian Nazarene College and written numerous articles and study guides on victorious living.

Also during the services, Steve Desmond of Greeley will sing and lead each service withg a short concert and congregational singing.

The Right Rev. James McNeley, retiring diocesan bishop of Holy Trinity/Great Plains, and the Right Rev. Leo Michael, newly elected diocesan bishop, will visit Saint Gabriel Holy Catholic Church/Anglican Rite on May 2.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the local congregation. The congregation was organized by the late Father Gregory Harring and Jack and Irene Bengtson in April 1983.

After conducting services in various locations, the congregation acquired the property at 1103 10th Ave. in Greeley from the late Dr. Joseph Haefeli in 1986. The church has had yard sales and operated a food shelf since 1986. Many parishioners and their children have been baptised there and know the property as a great place to watch the Fourth of July Parade.

Anyone interested in meeting the bishops and celebrating the anniversary is invited to attend a service of Holy Communion at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2, at the church. Lunch will be served after the service. For details, call (970) 356-2786.

A Walk for Life sponsored by Northern Colorado Lutherans for Life will start at 9 a.m. today at Lake Loveland. Registration fee is $10. For details, call (970) 397-1088 or (970) 302-2442.
