Walk for health program planned Wednesday

Print Comment
More than 200 Weld County and city of Greeley employees will participate in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's National Walk at Lunch Day on Wednesday.

The event, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., is designed to encourage people to walk during their lunch hours in an effort to cut down on illnesses and chronic disease brought on by inactivity. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said simply getting 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as a brisk walk, at least five times a week has significant health benefits.

Kelly Imus, worksite wellness coordinator with the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment, said county employees will participate in the event at the north county complex in Greeley, while those in the downtown area, including the five county commissioners and city officials, will walk from the Weld Courthouse to the University of Northern Colorado.

In addition, State Farm Insurance Cos. employees will participate at their campus at Promontory while other events are scheduled in Fort Lupton and Frederick.
