In case you missed it, Newsweek ran a short two-part video story about the draw of derby.

The piece from April 16-17 is a good intro into why some women play the sport and organize teams in their hometown. It features women skaters talking about derby life and the history of women and the sport, as well as how the game has evolved from the staged, 1970s version my mother used to watch.

One of the women interviewed explains the marks from a gnarly accident she recently suffered, when her face met a set of metal bleachers. Thankfully, she is recovering.

One of the videos also includes footage from the episode of “Charlie’s Angels” when Farrah Fawcett and all of her feathered hair went undercover on the roller derby rink to solve a crime. Anybody remember that one?
