A family of six were left homeless Tuesday night after the mobile home they were living in caught fire.
No one was injured in the blaze, which started at about 7 p.m. in lot eight of the Mobile Estates Mobile Park at 1823 5th St. in Greeley. According to Doug Forsman, the Union Colony Fire/Rescue Authority fire chief, the fire was sparked by an unattended candle left in the east end of the house.
Karina Delarosa, 17, said she was making dinner when she noticed something was wrong.
"When I turned, like, I saw the black smoke, and I thought it was from the kitchen," said Karina, who was alone in the trailer when the fire started. "And then when I looked through the hallway, like, the last room was on fire."
Miguel Reyes, 14, who lives two mobile homes to the north, said the flames then quickly began bellowing from the clay-colored trailer.
"They were pretty big," Miguel said. "They were coming out of both sides of the porch."
According to Forsman, the fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes. Five Union Colony Fire/Rescue units responded to the fire. Forsman said the mobile home sustained significant damage — mostly from smoke — but it was not a complete loss.
Jose Lopez, his wife Maria Rodriguez and their four children occupied the house. Karina, who is Rodriguez's daughter, often stayed in the house, along with her fiancé, Gustavo Arenes, 18.

The family did not have insurance, Forsman said, and they plan to stay with family members who live in Greeley.
