Man pleads guilty to third-degree assault and criminal mischief

A 20-year old Evans man accused of kidnapping his girlfriend and forcing her to disrobe so she wouldn't run away, plead guilty to criminal mischief and third-degree assault Thursday in court.

Daniel Lopez appeared in custody and agreed to the plea deal, which dropped all other charges against him. Part of the deal includes two years of supervised probation and $2,298 in restitution for the felony criminal mischief.

On Feb. 23 police responded to the 3000 block of Denver Street where a woman said she was hit by her boyfriend, according to the arrest affidavit.

The woman reported that her boyfriend, Lopez, had been drinking the previous night with friends and became physically and verbally abusive toward her to the point of forcing her to disrobe, police said.

Lopez's sentencing is 2 p.m. May 29 in Weld district court.
