Allison Beggs does not lack in energy.
And that's good, for the 22-year-old is in her junior year at the University of Northern Colorado, started one business about year ago, and began a second a little over a month ago.
When does she sleep?
"I'm not sure that I do," Beggs said with a laugh.
Beggs, a 2004 graduate of Greeley Central High School, took over Contours Express, 3091 29th St., a ladies only fitness and weight loss studio a year ago after returning to Greeley from the University of Georgia where she was enrolled for two years. Soon after, she resumed her pursuit of a business degree at UNC's Monfort College of Business, while spending most of her early morning and early evening hours running her fitness center.
Earlier this year, her sister broke an elbow in a Rollerblade mishap. Beggs had been dabbling in painting, so she painted her sister a flower pot "to make her feel better and maybe help with the healing process."
That led to her second business, Soul Blossoms, which she started in early April. She has already sold about half a dozen paintings of flowers, which she said have the ability to rejuvenate and bring joy "simply through their presence."
Soul Blossoms are personalized, hand-painted flower portraits Beggs started for family and friends, but has now expanded into a second business.
"They can be for anybody who might be going through health or any other problems, or just because they like flowers," Beggs said. Her most common painting is a 16-inch by 20-inch portrait which she sells for $60, but Beggs said she will do any size a customer might want.
Beggs, on her business card advertising Soul Blossoms, notes that every flower emits a unique vibrational frequency that has a healing effect. She said she either chooses a specific flower after meeting a customer or the customer may choose a particular flower.
"I focus on the customer and use a variety of vibrant colors when painting a portrait," Beggs said. She operates the business out of Contours Express. Once she completes her classes at UNC, she said she can spend a little more time with her paintings this summer.
"Painting offers me an outlet from everything else that is going on," she said.
