Former Weld County sheriff’s deputy pleads not guilty to sexual assault

A former Weld County sheriff’s deputy charged with sexual assault on a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor plead not guilty this morning at his arraignment.

Landon Greatheart, 32, appeared in court on a $50,000 bond, which was continued until his next hearing on July 17. Greatheart’s four-day jury trial is set to begin Aug. 18.

Sheriff office investigators believe Greatheart, of Evans, developed a five-month consensual sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl who lived with him and two other women as a foster child for about a month, according a sheriff's report.

Greatheart has told deputies in the report he developed a sexual relationship with the girl in June or July of 2007, but denied that he ever took responsibility of the girl as her guardian.
