LOVELAND — So much for any kind of home-ice advantage for the Colorado Eagles. Every advantage in this President’s Cup Finals series now belongs to the Arizona Sundogs.
Mark Kolanos scored two goals, Alex Leavitt scored a backbreaking goal on a 3-on-1 breakaway halfway through the third period and Robert McVicar was a wall in goal for Arizona. And all of that led to a 5-2 Sundogs rout that gave them a 3-0 lead in the series.
Colorado had plenty of opportunities to score, holding a convincing 53-30 shots-on-goal advantage. But Arizona’s precision passing and their ability to take advantage of the Eagles’ mistakes sent many of the 5,289 fans at the sold-out Budweiser Events Center heading for the exits by the middle of the third period.
McVicar only surendered a pair of goald to Ryan Tobler, the last one coming with less than four minutes left and the game in hand for Arizona.
