Evan George opened his mouth to speak but stopped in mid-sentence -- interrupted by a honk from a passing car.

Time for another drink.

"It's a never-ending game," said George, a junior at the University of Northern Colorado, a short time later. "There is no ending point -- just a matter of when you fall over or you decide to quit."

Perseverance was on hand on Wednesday afternoon as George and several other students basked in the front lawn of 1929 8th Ave. in Greeley -- drinks in hand. With the end to the school year within sight -- and the need to reduce finals-related stress growing every day -- the students continued a tradition of theirs by playing one of their favorite games.

The rules are simple: you honk, we drink.

"A lot of people are graduating, a lot of people are going into their senior years," said Kristen Lentowich, shouting for joy as everyone around her tipped their glass in appreciation to the passing car. "We always wanted a way to celebrate without having to drive, so we are celebrating by having other people honk and we drink."

While it may seem like merely a time for drunken debauchery, Lentowich, a sophomore at Aims Community College who lives at the house, said the residents of the house made sure that those attending the over-21 celebration were abiding with the law and behaving themselves. According to George, even some police officers sounded their horns -- just a few of the approximately several hundred honks they received by 6:30 p.m.

"They're celebrating with us," said Lentowich, of everyone passing by. "We're incorporating the whole town."

And that -- along with another honk -- is something to drink to.
