The Central Colorado Water Conservancy District and the city of Greeley's Water Conservation and Stormwater programs are co-sponsoring this year's Children's Water Festival.
The annual event will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at Aims Community College, 5401 20th St.
The festival promotes education of local water issues to fourth-grade students in Weld, Morgan and Adams counties. This year's theme is "Water in the West."
The festival brings water and natural resource professionals from around Colorado to provide presentations and activities about water, conservation, agriculture and aquatic life. Workshops cover a wide range of curriculum areas including language arts, math, science, social studies, visual art and health. Goals are to teach students that water is an essential, limited resource and that they can take action.
Greeley Mayor Ed Clark will host the Water Wizards competition, a water trivia contest between schools. The top four students from a class compete on a Water Wizard team.
This year, more than 1,000 students will attend the festival, coming from Greeley, Evans, Windsor, Milliken, Brighton, Lochbuie, Galeton and Eaton. Schools pre-registered and the event is full.
