Boy taken into protective custody in cutting incident

One boy was taken into protective custody and another had a minor injury Wednesday morning when one boy "scraped" the other with a small razor blade.

According to Greeley police spokesman Sgt. Joe Tymkowych, the incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Heath Middle School, 16th Street and 23rd Avenue.

Police were called to the school by a nurse who said a boy came to her with a minor scrape and said another boy cut him with a razor blade. When police investigated, they found the other boy was using a small piece of a razor to cut himself, a psychological problem officials usually call "cutting." When other students in the school started teasing the "cutter," he lashed out and cut one of them on the arm with the razor. Tymkowych said the cut was not serious, describing it as a minor scrape.

The boy who was injuring himself was taken into protective custody, his parents were notified, and he was taken to the hospital. He may face assault charges, Tymkowych said.
