Three people were arrested Tuesday night after a 12-year-old was found heavily intoxicated.
Sarah Nicole Wrede, 23, Herbert Eala, 56, and Gilbert Snedigar, 57, all were arrested on suspicion of child abuse and contributing the to delinquency of a minor after the incident, which occurred at about 8 p.m. in their apartment in the 600 block of 26th Street in Garden City. Eala also was arrested on suspicion of the possession of drug paraphernalia.
The girl was taken to North Colorado Medical Center, 1801 16th St. in Greeley, after she was found by a friend of the family at the apartments where she lived in the 600 block of 26th Street in Garden City. The girl was released early Wednesday morning.
Her mother, who was in her apartment at the other end of the complex, was notified at about 8:30 p.m. by Jessica Silver, a friend of the family, who found the girl.
"I came running out after her and I seen her walking -- she hit herself on that window that's open -- and her shirt was hanging off and I got scared," said Melissa Perea, the girl's mother, in an interview with Tribune media partner FOX 31. "I had to literally carry my daughter, she couldn't even breath anymore."
Evans police Sgt. Jason Phipps said the girl's blood-alcohol level was .23, more than 4 times the legal limit for driving while impaired.
Two of the people arrested already had warrants in their names, according to Phipps. Eala had two warrants, one of which was for a traffic-related offense, and Snedigar was wanted in connection with shoplifting.
Both Snedigar and Eala remained in the Weld County Jail on Thursday evening -- Snedigar on $20,000 bond and Eala on $15,000 bond. Wrede was released on Wednesday on $15,000 bond.
The Tribune tried to contact Wrede at her residence, where police say the incident occurred, but no one answered.
"It just scares me," said Perea, in a separate interview with the Tribune. "It scares me that she can't even be out in her own neighborhood."
"I told her, you know, this could have been a disaster," Perea said. "She needs to know how to just stay away, you know, stay where I could see her because it's hard, it's hard for little girls nowadays."
