The High Plains library district has received a $5,000 grant to help adults who don't know English learn the language to better help their children.
The American Library Association gave 34 libraries around the country $5,000 each to support literacy.
According to the National Assessment of Adult Literacy, one in 20 American adults cannot read a newspaper, understand directions for medications or help their children with their schoolwork.
In its grant, the American Library Association said Weld County has a high percentage of adults who cannot read English because of low education levels and the high percentage of Spanish-speaking families.
The program will start in September to coincide with the beginning of school.
