Dr. Robert Jordan Jr.
Aug. 11, 1925-May 14, 2008
Age: 82
Residence: Greeley
Tribute: Dr. Robert D. Jordan Jr. was born in Haxtun to Dr. Robert D. and Betty (Edwards) Jordan and moved with his family to Ault in 1930. He graduated from high school in 1943 and joined the Navy when he was 17. He was part of the second wave of Marines to hit the beach of Iwo Jima. Within five days, Mount Saribachi was secured, and the American flag was raised on the summit.
Dr. Jordan was on Iwo Jima for 15 days before he was wounded and left the island. While he was in the hospital in Glenwood Springs, the governor sent an aide to take him to Denver to spend the day with two of the three survivors of the flag raising. They went to radio stations and were recorded for the Bond Drive.
After being discharged from the hospital, Dr. Jordan went to the University of Denver in 1945. He graduated from the University of Kansas City Dental College in 1954. He then joined his father's dental practice in Ault where he practiced until July 2007.
Dr. Jordan loved dentistry, fishing, golf, spending time with his children and their families and his loyal staff of 23 years, Les Page and Kim Patterson. He also enjoyed his Sunday breakfasts with Herm Akers and Marge O'Neill.
Dr. Jordan died Wednesday in Greeley.
