Coming Together community series
"Coming Together" is The Tribune's new weekly series that will explore the different ways -- big and small -- that people in Weld County are building community. These people are examples of how each of us can make a difference just by getting involved. The series officially begins April 8.

To explore the topic of illegal immigration in Colorado, the Tribune teamed
with its affiliated newspapers across the state to create a series of stories
that will run during the next week. In addition to reporting from Weld County,
our correspondents reported from the resort areas of Vail, Aspen and
Breckenridge and the bedroom communities in the Roaring Fork Valley. Another
writer spent time in northern Mexico, visiting the towns from which many of
Colorado’s immigrants originate.

Liberty in Liberia
This week, Liberia is having its first elections since a 14-year civil war tore the country apart. Tribune reporter Millete Birhanemaskel will be there to give readers first-hand reports of the historical event as a country takes its first official step into democracy. Birhanemaskel was chosen to be part of a six-person media team to report on the elections as part of a fellowship offered by the United Nations and the National Association of Black Journalists.

For the past decade, children of Weld County have been part of an alarming trend. Compared to children across the state, Weld County kids fare worse in important areas such as income, health care and education. Last year, Greeley was one of four Colorado cities in crisis in terms of children's well-being. "Faces of Our Future" is a yearlong series about the personal stories behind the statistics and the effort to change the course of our children's lives.

Worlds Apart - Coming Together
Many Weld County Hispanics and Anglos live in different worlds. You can see that in what some refer to as the two Greeleys. North and west Greeley are only a few miles apart physically, but culturally they might as well be in different countries. In monthly installments, the Greeley Tribune will explore the complex issues surrounding race relations. Through this journey, we hope to reach a deeper understanding of ourselves and our future.
